The declared purpose of the compact of Union from which we have withdrawn was "to establish justic e, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessing of liberty to ourselves and our posterity;" and when, in the judgment of the sovereign States now composing this Confedera cy, it had been per verted from the purposes for which it was ordained, and had ceased to answer the ends for which it was established, a peaceful appeal to the ballot-box declared that so far as they were concerned, the government created by that compact should cease to exist. In this they merely asserted a right which the Declaration of Independence of 1776 had defined to be inalienable. The right solemnly proclaimed at the birth of the States, and which has been affirmed and reaffirmed in the bills of rights of States subsequently admitted into the Union of 1789, undeniably recognize in the people the power to resume the authority delegated for the purposes of government. We’re Going to Mars!

Human exploration of Mars is no longer the stuff of science fiction. The United States could very likely send its first delegation to the red planet in 2033. If SpaceX, a private company dedicated to space travel and exploration, has any say in it, humans will reach Mars as early as 2022. As amazing as this seems, studying Mars is expensive, difficult, and dangerous. The most important three questions are as follows: Why should we do it? How are we going to get there? How much will it cost?

Studying the evolution of other planets furthers our knowledge of our universe as well as our planet.

Today, Mars is too cold and the atmosphere is too thin for life to exist on the surface. However, evidence suggests that life may have existed in bacterial form billions of years ago. The planet must have been warm enough at one point to support life. Discovering what caused the change could help scientists better understand Earth’s climate. Also, studying sediments, rocks, and soils, as well as volcanoes and meteoroid impact sites, can help scientists study details of Earth’s evolution.

Exploring Mars could lead to colonization.

Settling other planets is the most attractive aspect of space exploration. It brings to mind entire galaxies filled with human outposts, discovering amazing landscapes and species, and possibly finding intelligent life similar to our own. Studying Mars is one of the first steps along the way. The benefits go well beyond the “wow” factor. Colonies would be able to reap raw materials—including electricity—on their planets and send them back to Earth. That’s right! Colonists could harvest the sun’s energy and send it to Earth in the form of electricity. Being able to farm renewable power will release humans from being too reliant on gas, coal, and nuclear energy.

Colonizing Mars goes beyond the practical rewards. It would be an important moment in the history of humanity, ranking up there with the discovery of “The New World” and the moon landing. It would require a lot of resources, money, and collaboration. Multiple countries could learn how to better our species. Some of the products we use every day were invented by NASA, including baby formula, water filtration, and cell phone cameras. The amount of technological innovation required for such an effort could benefit the world as well.

How will we do it?

NASA currently has plans to send a human mission to Mars by 2033. There are five phases, or steps.

Phase 0: has been going on since the main building of the International Space Station began in 1998. The experiments and collaboration with private space companies (such as SpaceX) are a major component of this phase.

Phase 1: requires that we build bigger and better spacecraft. This will transport the crew with all of the supplies it needs to survive.

Phase 2: Build a Deep Space Transport (DST) system. The DST system calls for creating vehicles that astronauts can live in during the two-year trip to Mars, as well as supply lines. This is a practice step of sorts. The system will be tested using missions to the moon.

Phase 3: Expand the DST system to Mars

Phase 4: Take a manned trip to the red planet.

If this sounds expensive, that’s because it is. Mars One, a private space exploration company whose mission is to establish a permanent human colony on Mars, estimates that it will cost $6 billion. SpaceX estimates that it will cost $10 billion per person. NASA’s costs are much higher. It thinks that such a mission would ultimately cost $1 trillion. Currently, NASA receives 0.5% of the national budget, or $22.629 billion, for all of its operations.

But don’t worry! Although the cost seems extremely high, Elon Musk, who owns SpaceX, thinks that the cost of moving to the moon will eventually be much less. Once everything is in place, the colonies are established, and deep space travel is normalized, someone could move to Mars for as little as $100,000.

“It gets to the point where almost anyone, if they saved up and this was their goal, could buy a ticket and move to Mars — and given that Mars would have a labor shortage for a long time, jobs would not be in short supply,” he said.

WOODSIDE, California (Achieve3000, August 30, 2018). Many people once thought gorillas were scary. But one intelligent and caring western lowland gorilla changed that idea. Her name was Koko.

Koko was born in 1971 at the San Francisco Zoo in the U.S. state of California. At age 1, she began learning American Sign Language (ASL). Dr. Penny Patterson taught her. Patterson was then a student at Stanford University. With Patterson's help, Koko learned more than 1,000 signs. The gorilla used these signs to communicate with her caretakers. Through the years, Patterson wrote articles and made videos. She showed how Koko communicated.

Koko didn't communicate through ASL alone. She also painted. Sometimes, she painted objects in her environment. Other times, she showed her thoughts and emotions. She used sign language to name her paintings.

Koko showed emotions in other ways, too. She showed joy, for example. When she turned 25, Patterson presented her with some kittens. The gorilla chose a gray-and-white cat. She gave it the name "All Ball" because the cat looked like a ball. Koko would hold All Ball in her arms or let the little kitten climb on her. Koko was very gentle with the cat, which surprised some people. After all, Koko was a gorilla. She weighed 280 pounds (127 kilograms)! When All Ball was killed by a car, Koko appeared to be very sad. She would have other kittens. But she never seemed to forget All Ball.

Koko spent her life showing people that she was not so different than they were. She died in June 2018 at the age of 46. By that time, she had become a celebrity.

Write a short talk for elementary schools students about how to budget your time wisely. Include specific facts and examples.

Answers

Explanation:

Hello, elementary school students! Today, I'm going to talk to you about how to budget your time wisely.

First, what does it mean to budget your time? Well, just like you budget your money, you need to plan out how you're going to use your time. There are only 24 hours in a day, and you want to make sure you're making the most of each one.

One great way to budget your time is to make a schedule. Write down what you need to do each day - like homework, chores, sports practice, and so on - and then think about how much time you need to spend on each thing. You might find that you have more free time than you realize!

Another thing to keep in mind when budgeting your time is to prioritize. That means deciding which things are most important to you. For example, if you have a big test coming up, you might want to spend more time studying and less time playing video games.

Finally, it's important to learn how to say "no" to things that you don't have time for. If your friend asks you to come over and play when you have a lot of homework, it's okay to say that you can't. Remember, it's better to do a few things well than to try to do too much and not do anything very well at all.

In summary, budgeting your time means planning out how you're going to use your 24 hours each day. You can make a schedule, prioritize, and learn how to say "no" to things you don't have time for. By budgeting your time wisely, you'll be more productive and less stressed. Thanks for listening!

Title: Time Management: Make Every Minute Count!

Introduction:

Good morning/afternoon, everyone! Today, I want to talk to you about a very important skill that can help you succeed not only in school but also in your everyday life. It's called time management. Just like we budget our money, it's essential to learn how to budget our time wisely. By doing so, we can make sure we have enough time for everything we need to do and even have some extra time for fun activities. So, let's dive into the world of time management and discover some helpful tips and tricks.

Set Priorities:

First things first, it's crucial to identify what tasks are most important and need to be done. For example, completing your homework, studying for tests, and attending school are essential priorities. By knowing what is important, you can plan your time accordingly.

Create a Schedule:

One great way to manage your time effectively is by creating a schedule or a to-do list. You can use a planner, a calendar, or even a simple piece of paper to write down your tasks and activities. By having a visual plan, you will know what needs to be done and when. You can allocate specific time slots for different activities such as homework, chores, reading, and playtime.

Learn to Say No:

Sometimes, we may feel overwhelmed with too many activities or commitments. It's important to learn to say no when we genuinely don't have the time to take on more responsibilities. By saying no to some things, we can focus on what is truly important and manage our time effectively.

Break Tasks into Smaller Steps:

Large tasks can be intimidating, but when we break them down into smaller, manageable steps, they become much easier to tackle. For example, if you have a big project to complete, you can divide it into smaller parts and work on them one at a time. By doing this, you'll feel less overwhelmed and be able to make steady progress.

Avoid Procrastination:

Procrastination is when we delay doing something that needs to be done. It's a common challenge, but we can overcome it by staying organized and following our schedule. By starting tasks early and avoiding unnecessary distractions, we can complete our work on time and have more free time later.

Conclusion:

Remember, time is a precious resource, and learning how to manage it wisely will benefit you throughout your life. By setting priorities, creating a schedule, saying no when necessary, breaking tasks into smaller steps, and avoiding procrastination, you can become a master of time management. So, let's make every minute count and use our time effectively to achieve our goals and enjoy life to the fullest!

Thank you for listening, and I hope you find these tips helpful in managing your time wisely.
